Different areas of folk music in Transoxania

Folk music in Transoxania (Tajikistan and Uzbekistan) can be divided into two main groups: music of the Turkic-speaking and that of the Persian-speaking people of the region. The former group, which is not being discussed here, is primarily related to the rural areas and mostly belongs to the tradition of Turkic bards who accompany their songs on the dotâr and other instruments of the kind. The latter, can be found in big cities (especially Bukhara and Samarkand in Uzbekistan) as well as in rural areas.
